{"id":15,"date":"2010-11-25T09:21:57","date_gmt":"2010-11-25T09:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.kmc.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/department-of-obstetrics-gynecology\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T12:50:41","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T09:50:41","slug":"department-of-obstetrics-gynecology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/en.kmc.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?page_id=15","title":{"rendered":"Department Of Obstetrics &#038; Gynecology"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0The department teaches obstetrics and gynecology for the 4th, 5th and 6th year students.The theory part of the curriculum (lectures) is given at Al-Kindy medical college.The clinical training sessions are at Al-Elwiya maternity teaching hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Department committee is responsible also for training post graduate students and they work at the hospital as doctors and consultants as they take an important part in the health services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff0000;\">The Vision<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The vision of the Department is to be a national recognized centre for academic Obstetrics and Gynecology..<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff0000;\">The Mission<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The mission is to provide a high quality academic service of clinical, educational and research activities within its associated teaching hospital. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff0000;\">DEPARTMENT&#8217;S GOALS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The department goals is to provide the medical students with the basic knowledge and skills of how to deal with the women health in pregnancy and outside pregnancy, starting from preventive measures to the management of normal pregnancy, abnormal pregnancy, dealing with the most important gynecological diseases and with special concern of emergencies in obstetrics and gynecology preparing them for their future career. Seeking knowledge rather than waiting to be taught\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0 DEPARTMENT&#8217;S OBJECTIVES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> Is to provide the medical students (4th, 5th &amp; 6th year) with:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A fourth year medical graduate should:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be able to take an obstetrical history and perform an obstetrical examination at all stages of pregnancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Have a basic knowledge of the principles in practice of obstetrics, including antenatal and postnatal care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Have a basic knowledge of intra- partum care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Have enough practice experience to be able to deliver a baby and apply resuscitation to the newborn.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be aware of emotional aspects of childbirth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be aware of the inter-relationships between general disease and pregnancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be able to recognize common obstetrical emergencies requiring urgent intervention and be able to initiate treatment with appropriate first aid measures.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #102e5e;\">A fifth year medical graduate should:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be able to take a gynecological history, conduct a pelvic examination and take a cervical smear if possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Have a basic knowledge of important and common gynecological conditions including infertility and assisted reproduction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be able to recognize common gynecological emergencies requiring urgent intervention and be able to initiate treatment with appropriate first aid measures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Be able to provide advices and instructions concerning suitable methods of contraception and hormone replacement therapy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Small group discussion<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A sixth year medical graduates:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They are prepared to take the responsibility after getting their M.B.Ch.B. degree.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They are involved in the morning report and round, case presentation and discussion, labour ward attendance, gynecological and obstetrical ward attendance, Seminars toutorials and problems discussions.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They are also involved in weekly PHCC attendance to have ideas about the different programs of the primary health care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They also involved in afternoon training to share the resident&#8217;s duties and to meet the emergency cases. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #102e5e;\">Students Assessment:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px; color: #102e5e;\">\u00a0Consist of two kinds:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The formative assessment.
