In a remarkable step toward advancing maternal healthcare in Iraq, faculty members from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, actively took part in the prestigious Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course, recently hosted by the National Center for Training and Human Development at the Iraqi Ministry of Health.<\/span><\/p>\n

This high-level training was conducted in collaboration with the Iraqi Board for Medical Specializations and the Scientific Council for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and held at the Board\u2019s headquarters. The course aims to elevate the standard of obstetric emergency care and promote stronger academic-clinical collaboration across the country\u2019s healthcare system.<\/span><\/p>\n

Representing Al-Kindy College were a group of seasoned educators and medical professionals, including Prof. Dr. Taghreed Khalil Al-Haidari, Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs. Dr. Al-Haidari participated as a certified instructor and a senior advisor within the ALSO program.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was joined by fellow department members, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahar Jassim Abd and Prof. Dr. Waqaar Akram Hussein, who also served as certified instructors, enriching the course with their academic depth and clinical expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their involvement underscores Al-Kindy College\u2019s strong commitment to continuous professional development, not only for its faculty but also for the broader healthcare community in Iraq.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ALSO course combined scientific lectures with hands-on simulation workshops, using life-like medical mannequins to simulate real-world delivery room emergencies\u2014ranging from severe postpartum bleeding to maternal resuscitation and complex labor scenarios.<\/span><\/p>\n

Led by a team of Iraqi specialist obstetricians accredited by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the course offered participants an immersive, evidence-based learning experience designed to save lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

As confirmed by the National Center, participants will receive internationally recognized certificates valid for five years, reinforcing Iraq\u2019s commitment to maintaining high standards in maternal healthcare. These certifications are not just credentials\u2014they are a pledge to provide safer, more responsive care for mothers and newborns alike.<\/span><\/p>\n

At its core, this initiative reflects Al-Kindy College\u2019s mission: to empower medical professionals with the skills, confidence, and compassion to meet the nation\u2019s most pressing healthcare challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n
