The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Women\u2019s Affairs Unit, organized an awareness seminar titled \u201cDrugs and Their Impact on Society,\u201d delivered by Asst. Lecturer Dr. Wasan Abdulrazzaq. The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Eidani, the Scientific Assistant, and a number of faculty members and staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Shatha Salah, the seminar aimed to raise awareness within the academic community about the dangers of drugs on the individual, the family, and society. The speaker provided a clear overview of the concept of substance use, major types of narcotic substances, and the factors that may lead individuals toward addiction.<\/span><\/p>\n

The session also included visual educational content, presenting images of plants used in drug manufacturing, the key raw materials involved in production, and an explanatory diagram outlining trafficking routes and methods of distribution.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, Dr. Abdulrazzaq discussed the psychological and social consequences of drug use, including its role in family breakdown and increasing rates of domestic violence. Participants emphasized the importance of implementing broad awareness campaigns in partnership with health, social, and security institutions. The speaker recommended forming a specialized committee that brings together official and community stakeholders to address drug-related risks, while strengthening the role of media in guiding parents on early warning signs and encouraging family support to maintain a healthy and safe home environment.<\/span><\/p>\n
