The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific symposium titled “Pharmacovigilance and Its Importance in Enhancing Patient Safety,” presented by Professor Dr. Saad Baday Al-Khazraji.<\/span><\/div>\n
The session was chaired by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Naba Aswad Al-Mayali and attended by College Dean Professor Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Eidani and Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Assistant Professor Dr. Mohanad Munther.<\/span><\/div>\n
The symposium addressed the modern concept of pharmacovigilance as an integrated system for monitoring drug safety and its vital role in protecting patients and enhancing healthcare quality. This is achieved through tracking, recording, and scientifically analyzing emerging adverse drug reactions.<\/span><\/div>\n
Dr. Al-Khazraji emphasized that the field’s necessity stems from the limitations of pre-marketing clinical trials, which cannot detect all potential side effects until widespread community use occurs. This makes surveillance and monitoring systems essential for ensuring drug safety.<\/span><\/div>\n
The symposium stressed that pharmacovigilance transcends administrative procedure\u2014it represents a shared professional and ethical responsibility among all healthcare team members. The call to action: embedding a culture of precise adverse event reporting and documentation to ensure highest safety standards and protect community health.<\/span><\/div>\n
This activity aligns with the college’s efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical culture and elevate professional awareness among students and faculty.<\/span><\/div>\n
