The pursuit of excellence in the field of laboratory testing and calibration has always been a critical factor in ensuring the reliability and accuracy of laboratory results. In recognition of this fact, Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, organized an optimal strategy course for the implementation of the international standard ISO17025 for the quality of testing and calibration laboratories, specifically medical laboratories.

The course was held in the halls of Al-Kindy College of Medicine, and the primary objective was to provide laboratory supervisors, technical officials, and workers in the college laboratories with the necessary knowledge and tools to develop a laboratory improvement plan to meet the ISO17025 international standard. This standard is designed to ensure that the quality management systems used by testing and calibration laboratories meet the requirements for accuracy, precision, and reliability.

The two-day course, was led by Bushra Yassin Tawfik, the head of chemists and the official of the laboratory quality unit in the college. During the course, the participants were introduced to the key concepts of the ISO17025 standard, such as quality management systems, calibration, traceability, measurement uncertainty, and proficiency testing. The course also provided practical guidance on how to develop a laboratory improvement plan, including establishing clear objectives, identifying the necessary resources, and setting performance indicators.

At the end of the course, an examination was conducted to evaluate the participants’ understanding of the ISO17025 standard and their ability to apply the concepts covered in the course to develop a laboratory improvement plan. The participants were required to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the standard and were assessed based on their ability to develop a practical and effective laboratory improvement plan.

The course received positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the ISO17025 standard and develop practical strategies to improve the quality of their laboratory testing and calibration practices. The participants also praised the instructor’s expertise and her ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
