Tissue Typing Unit

_

The Tissue Typing Unit, established in 2012 and fully operational by 2013, is one of the first of its kind in Iraq’s higher education system. This unit plays a pivotal role in addressing pressing healthcare challenges within the community. It has conducted extensive research on genetic factors contributing to autoimmune diseases, bacterial infections, and cancer. The unit also supports postgraduate and board-certified students in their medical research, providing essential training in molecular biology techniques. Our work includes DNA extraction, amplification through PCR, and electrophoresis using agarose gel, alongside DNA hybridization through specialized instruments such as the AutoLipa. Numerous groundbreaking studies from this unit have been published in leading international journals indexed by Scopus.

Obesity Research and Treatment Unit

_

The Obesity Research and Treatment Unit is a leader in its field, with two primary goals: advancing scientific research and providing effective clinical care.

Research Focus

We conduct comprehensive studies on obesity and its related complications to enhance our understanding of the disease and develop more effective treatment strategies. We collaborate with national and international research centers, with a particular focus on metabolic syndrome and its management.

Clinical Care

The unit provides comprehensive care for patients, including thorough assessments and laboratory testing (hematological, pathological, hormonal, and biochemical) alongside physiological evaluations. Our integrated treatment plans cover nutritional counseling, physical rehabilitation, pharmacotherapy, surgical interventions, and psychological support, ensuring holistic care for each patient.

Faculty Community Services

_

Our dedicated faculty members actively participate in a range of community health services in Baghdad, including:

Providing medical consultations in outpatient clinics and healthcare centers.

Leading health awareness campaigns to promote public education on chronic and infectious diseases.

Offering ongoing professional development and medical training to healthcare professionals in the public sector.

These efforts are aimed at improving healthcare delivery in Iraq and enhancing the quality of life for patients across the nation.

Our faculty also plays a vital role in organizing health awareness campaigns, designed to educate the public on critical health issues such as non-communicable diseases and infection control. Moreover, they contribute to the ongoing education of healthcare professionals through structured training programs that enhance the skills and knowledge of medical practitioners, ultimately raising the standard of care throughout Iraq.

The Significance of Community Services

The community outreach efforts of Alkindy College of Medicine serve as a cornerstone for improving public health across Iraq. Our services focus on:

Enhancing overall population health.

Reducing the burden of chronic and infectious diseases.

Increasing public awareness of health issues and preventive care.
