About the Unit
The Molecular and Immunological Research Unit was established in 2012 as one of the early specialized research units within higher education and scientific research. Since its establishment, considerable efforts have been devoted to developing its scientific and technical capabilities and supporting advanced biomedical research.
The Unit focuses primarily on investigating the genetic and molecular factors associated with immunological diseases, infectious agents, and other factors that may contribute to disease susceptibility and development. Its research activities also include studies related to cancer and other complex diseases.
Vision
To become a distinguished center for molecular, genetic, and immunological research, contributing to the advancement of biomedical knowledge, supporting postgraduate education, and promoting high-quality scientific research that addresses important health challenges.
Mission
The Unit aims to:
- Conduct advanced research into the genetic and molecular mechanisms of diseases.
- Investigate the role of infectious and environmental factors in increasing susceptibility to different diseases.
- Support research related to immunological disorders and cancer.

Research Activities
The Unit conducts a wide range of molecular and biomedical research activities. Its laboratory work commonly begins with the isolation and extraction of DNA from different biological specimens, followed by molecular amplification and analysis.
Techniques used within the Unit include:
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Real-Time PCR
- Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
- Molecular Hybridization Techniques
- Molecular analysis using specialized systems such as Auto-LiPA and other laboratory instruments
These technologies enable researchers to investigate genetic variations, molecular markers, infectious agents, and other biological factors associated with disease development.
Postgraduate Research Support
The Unit provides scientific and laboratory support for postgraduate students, including Board and PhD students, who conduct parts of their research projects using the Unit’s laboratory facilities and molecular techniques.
Through this role, the Unit contributes to the development of researchers’ practical skills and supports the completion of advanced biomedical and clinical research projects.
Scientific Publications
Researchers working through the Unit have contributed to the publication of numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, including journals indexed in Scopus.
The Unit has also contributed to the preparation and publication of scientific and academic books, supporting the dissemination of knowledge and strengthening its role in scientific research and postgraduate education.
