Committee definition

The Liaison Committee is an academic and administrative body responsible for organizing and strengthening the institutional relationship between Al-Kindy College of Medicine and accredited teaching hospitals and health centers, ensuring suitable clinical training environments for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Committee objectives

  • Ensure integration of theoretical learning with clinical practice.

  • Improve the efficiency and quality of medical education outcomes.

  • Support international academic accreditation standards within the clinical training axis.

  • Enhance sustainable partnerships between the College and health institutions.

  • Contribute to improved healthcare quality by preparing competent medical cadres.

Key responsibilities

  • Organize and document cooperation agreements between the College and teaching hospitals/health centers and follow up on implementation.

  • Ensure sufficient and diverse clinical training opportunities aligned with approved learning outcomes.

  • Coordinate with hospital/center administrations to facilitate clinical training and academic supervision.

  • Monitor clinical training quality and evaluate the training environment’s suitability according to recognized educational standards.

  • Document clinical supervision mechanisms and the roles of supervising physicians in coordination with academic departments.

  • Collect feedback from students, faculty, and clinical supervisors and use it to improve the training experience.

  • Support accreditation requirements by providing evidence and documentation related to clinical training and institutional linkage.

  • Participate in developing clinical curricula in alignment with labor market and health system needs.

  • Encourage joint scientific research between the College and health institutions.

  • Prepare periodic reports for the College Council including cooperation status, challenges, and proposed solutions.

Saad Al-Witri Hospital for Neurosciences (≈195 beds)

One of Iraq’s leading specialized hospitals, located on the Rusafa side of Baghdad. Established as an advanced national center for diagnosing and treating neurological diseases, serving patients from across Iraq.
Key services include: neurosurgery (brain/spine/peripheral nerves), neurology, stroke care, brain and nervous system tumor management, and advanced diagnostics (e.g., MRI/CT).
Includes specialized intensive care units.

2) Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital (≈333 beds)

A major teaching hospital in Baghdad (Rusafa), providing comprehensive healthcare services and serving as a primary clinical training site for Al-Kindy College of Medicine.
Core specialties/services: internal medicine, general surgery and surgical subspecialties, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, emergency and ICU, laboratories and medical imaging.
Students train in clinical examination, case follow-up in wards and outpatient clinics, and teamwork/communication within healthcare teams.

3) Al-Alwiyah Teaching Maternity Hospital (≈332 beds)

A leading specialized maternity hospital in Baghdad, providing 24/7 services for women’s health, pregnancy care, labor and delivery, and neonatal care.
Key services: antenatal/postnatal care, normal and cesarean delivery, neonatal intensive care, infertility and gynecology consultations, health education and breastfeeding support, and early screening related to women’s cancers.
Plays a central role in clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology under specialist supervision.

4) Al-Alwiyah Children’s Teaching Hospital (≈170 beds)

A specialized pediatric facility in Baghdad providing integrated care for infants and children up to 14 years.
Key services: neonatal and pediatric care, diagnosis and management of acute/chronic diseases, immunization programs, respiratory/GI/infectious disease care, and nutritional support with health education for families.
Includes general wards and intensive care units for newborns.

5) Ibn Rushd Training Hospital (≈74 beds)

A specialized hospital under the Iraqi Ministry of Health and a reference center for psychiatry and mental health in Baghdad (Karkh side).
Key services: diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology and long-term follow-up, behavioral therapy, psychosocial support, emergency psychiatric care, rehabilitation, and addiction-related services.
Provides training in psychiatric history taking, mental status examination, and ethical/empathetic patient communication.

6) Ibn Al-Nafis Teaching Hospital (≈170 beds)

A key specialized hospital for cardiology, cardiac surgery, and thoracic conditions in Baghdad (Rusafa).
Key services: cardiology diagnosis/treatment, open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, respiratory and chest disease management, coronary care/ICU, and advanced diagnostics.
Supports training in cardiovascular/chest examination and exposure to modern diagnostic/interventional procedures.

7) Neurosurgery Hospital (≈150 beds)

A leading specialized hospital for diagnosing and treating central and peripheral nervous system diseases, located on the Rusafa side of Baghdad and receiving complex neurological cases.
Key services: brain/spinal disorders, microsurgical operations and neurosurgical emergencies, head and spine trauma care, tumor and congenital anomaly follow-up, and neurological ICU.
Provides strong training opportunities in neurological examination and perioperative patient management.

8) Bab Al-Muazzam Model Training Family Medicine Center (≈10 beds)

A training center offering integrated primary healthcare services and supporting medical student training aligned with modern family medicine methodology.
Services: general medical and family medicine consultations, chronic disease follow-up (e.g., diabetes, hypertension), maternal and child health, vaccinations, prevention and health education, and referrals when needed.

9) Officers (Al-Dhubbat) Model Training Family Medicine Center (≈12 beds)

A recognized training site providing primary healthcare services and supporting undergraduate clinical training.
Services: general consultations, chronic disease follow-up, maternal/child care, immunization, early screening, community prevention and health education, and referrals.

10) Al-Sulaikh Second Training Family Medicine Center (≈10 beds)

A governmental primary healthcare center supporting clinical training and serving residents of Al-Sulaikh and nearby areas.
Services: general assessment, chronic disease follow-up, national immunization, early screening and control of common diseases, guidance and community prevention, and referral to nearby hospitals.

11) Hay Babil Model Training Family Medicine Center (≈6–10 beds)

A governmental primary healthcare center supporting medical student training.
Services: general assessment, chronic disease follow-up, maternal/child health and immunization, early screening and prevention, health education, and referrals to teaching hospitals when required.

12) Al-Mustansiriyah District Primary Health Care Center (Family Medicine Training) (≈6–10 beds)

A governmental center providing primary healthcare and family medicine services to local residents and serving as a supportive training site for clinical programs.
Services: general assessment and diagnosis of common conditions, chronic disease follow-up, maternal/child health and immunization, prevention and healthy lifestyle counseling, and referrals to specialized care.


13) Ibn Al-Bitar Specialized Center for Cardiac Surgery (≈60 beds)

A leading specialized cardiac center in Iraq under the Iraqi Ministry of Health, providing advanced diagnosis and treatment for cardiac diseases and surgeries, and supporting training for medical colleges (including Al-Kindy College of Medicine).
Key services: open-heart surgery for adults and children, coronary artery and valve disease management, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization, pre- and post-operative cardiac ICU, and follow-up for complex cases.
Enhances training in cardiac examination skills, investigation interpretation, and exposure to modern procedures.
