The University Psychological Counseling Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine is dedicated to promoting students’ psychological and social well-being on campus and providing supportive services that enhance positive adjustment and academic performance through evidence-based, professional guidance and awareness programs.

Unit Objectives

The Unit aims to:

  • Support students in facing psychological and academic challenges to strengthen psychological and social stability.

  • Develop students’ decision-making skills, sense of responsibility, and balanced personal growth.

  • Prevent psychological and behavioral problems and promote positive behavior within the university environment.

  • Contribute to improved academic achievement by enhancing motivation and adaptive coping.

Unit Responsibilities

The Unit provides psychological and educational counseling services at three levels:

  • Preventive: raising awareness and building skills for managing stress and challenges.

  • Developmental: strengthening personal, social, and study skills.

  • Therapeutic: addressing cases in accordance with approved professional frameworks.

It also:

  • Organizes individual and group counseling sessions as needed.

  • Implements awareness programs, workshops, and counseling courses.

  • Manages special and urgent psychological cases in coordination with relevant entities within the College and the University.

Work Mechanisms

The Unit operates through:

  • An advisory structure consisting of the Unit Head and liaison members from qualified academic staff.

  • Allocating students to counselors to ensure continuous follow-up and communication.

  • Holding periodic meetings to assess students’ needs and set priorities for counseling interventions.

  • Designing and delivering programs aligned with the university environment and students’ needs.

  • Documenting activities and cases while strictly maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical and professional standards.

Unit Activities Completed for the Academic Year 2024–2025

During the academic year 2024–2025, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit carried out a range of counseling and awareness activities, including:

  • (10) counseling courses

  • (9) scientific seminars

  • (5) workshops

  • Dozens of awareness lectures

  • Supportive activities and bazaars

  • Designing and producing awareness brochures and posters aligned with the Unit’s psychological and educational goals

These efforts contributed to enhancing psychological and educational awareness and supporting students’ psychological and social stability across the College.
