Alkindy College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad recently hosted a vibrant Global Entrepreneurship Week, Supervised by Dean Prof. Mohammed Shihab Al-Idani and the Assist. Dean for scientific affairs; Prof. Taghreed Alhaidari. The week featured a diverse array of events and activities presented by enthusiastic faculty members and students.
The opening ceremony set the tone for the week, with a warm welcome speech from Dr. Al-Idani. He welcomed a large audience of faculty members and students, expressing his delight in their presence and emphasizing the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among aspiring medical professionals.
Following the Dean’s address, Dr. Al-Haidari Deans’ assistant for scientific affair provided an informative introduction to Global Entrepreneurship Week, highlighting its significance and objectives. She encouraged students to embrace innovative ideas and explore entrepreneurial opportunities, emphasizing the potential for personal and societal impact.
Next, a group of students presented their research project titled “In Vitro Assessment of Bacterial Cultures Sensitivity to Vancomycin in Baghdad Teaching Hospital.” Their presentation underscored the crucial role of scientific research in advancing medical knowledge and improving healthcare practices.
Later that day, student Nasib Naseem conducted an engaging practical workshop on measuring blood pressure and sugar levels. He emphasized the importance of early familiarity with medical equipment, laying a solid foundation for future success in the medical field.
On the second day, students Ayah Hashem, Mohammed Aqeel, and Zainab Ghayath delivered a comprehensive lecture on diabetes, covering its measurement, causes, and preventive measures. The lecture showcased new and innovative methods for detecting diabetes, highlighting the evolution of diagnostic techniques over time.

Closing out the day’s events, student Sarah Hussein provided valuable insights and practical tips for starting a small project. Her engaging lecture focused on the latest innovations that can be utilized to initiate and sustain projects with various capital requirements.
Day three brought a thought-provoking lecture from Dr. Noor Ali, who discussed the risks of addiction, its prevalence, and its detrimental impact on individuals’ professional and social lives. Following this, Dr. Amer Al-Ansari, a visiting lecturer from Webster University in the Netherlands, shared fascinating insights into the relationship between music and speech, uncovering distinct centers for each in the brain, marking progress in neuroscience.
The week concluded with student activities in arts, cooking, and accessory making showcased in the bazaar and open day. Students demonstrated their non-medical innovations, and the college hosted the charitable organization “Edalal Agaty,” which supports small projects and provides medical assistance and contributions to various charity campaigns.
These events highlighted the college’s commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and innovation within its student community, making this week unique and inspirational for all students and faculty members.
The college is contributing to a dynamic educational environment that prepares students not only academically but also for real-world challenges. This approach encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for addressing various global issues outlined in the SDGs
