Alkindy College of Medicine in Baghdad, under the supervision of Dean Professor Dr. Muhammad Shihab Al-Idani, organized a seminar on “Violence Against Women and Applicable Laws.” The seminar was presented by Judge Iman Ghadban Auda, the Public Prosecutor at the Central Criminal Court.
The seminar was held in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Unit and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Rehabilitation Unit. It was attended by Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Taghreed Al-Haideri, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs Dr. Jameela Ghadban, as well as a large number of faculty members and students.
Judge Ghadban discussed many important aspects of violence against women in society, including the types of violence that are prevalent, the causes of violence, and the impact of violence on women’s professional and personal lives.
The Public Prosecutor began the seminar by discussing the causes of violence against women and its recent spread. She also outlined the laws and punishments that are necessary to address this phenomenon and how these laws and punishments are applied in civilized societies.
The seminar saw a great deal of interaction from the attendees, who discussed the challenges that women face in the family and society, the spread of violence against women, and the proposals that need to be implemented to address this phenomenon.
The organization of this seminar reflects Alkindy College of Medicine’s commitment to raising awareness of the importance of women’s empowerment, their role in the lives of individuals and society, their protection, and the enactment of laws that guarantee their rights.
