Al-Kindy College of Medicine recently conducted a specialized workshop highlighting the pivotal role of communication skills in medical education. The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Aidani, Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Taghreed Al-Haidari, Scientific Associate Dean, as well as numerous faculty members and academic staff.
The workshop featured insightful lectures by Dr. Abdulsalam Saleh, a recognized expert in communication skills, and Dr. Zainab, who provided an in-depth presentation on narrative medicine and the intersection of literature and medicine. The sessions underscored the critical significance of communication skills in contemporary medical training, incorporating both theoretical lectures and practical exercises on the concept, structure, objectives, and core techniques of the modern medical interview. Furthermore, the workshop examined the integral role of these skills within modern medical education.
Participants engaged in comprehensive discussions concerning the responsibilities and roles of physicians in patient-centered healthcare, emphasizing the active participation of patients in the medical interview process. The workshop also reviewed effective methodologies for teaching communication skills to medical students and assessing their performance in future academic terms.
