Alkindy College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad is committed to staying at the forefront of medical advancements. In line with this dedication, the Continuing Education Unit recently organized a workshop titled “Updates in Colonic Cancer: Surgical and Pathological Views.”
Held under the patronage of Dean Prof. Dr. Mohammed Shahab Al-Aidani, the workshop brought together medical professionals for a comprehensive exploration of the latest developments in colon cancer diagnosis and treatment. Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs Prof. Dr. Jamila Ghadhban and a group of faculty members actively participated in the event.
Dr. Mohammed Natheq Abbas from the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine and Dr. Kamal Abdul Hussein from the Department of Surgery led the workshop. Their presentations focused on the crucial role of collaboration between surgeons and pathologists in effectively managing colon cancer.
The workshop highlighted the significance of accurate pathology reports for surgically removed colon tumors. The lecturers emphasized the importance of including specific details within these reports, allowing for a more precise diagnosis and targeted treatment plan.
The event also shed light on the increasing importance of utilizing modern tests to identify tumor markers. These markers provide valuable insights into the characteristics of the cancer, ultimately influencing treatment decisions, such as chemotherapy.
Throughout the workshop, attendees actively participated by raising questions and engaging in discussions with the presenters. Dr. Abbas and Dr. Hussein addressed all inquiries with expertise, fostering a stimulating learning environment.
