Al-Kindy College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Rumors Department at the Directorate of Relations and Media, Ministry of Interior, held an awareness seminar on cyber extortion.
The seminar was delivered by Lt. Col. Abbas Kazem Salem, with the participation of a number of specialized officers, and attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jameela Ghadhban, Administrative Vice Dean; Mr. Ahmed Taha, Director of Human Resources; and a number of students.
The seminar addressed the concept of cyber extortion, explained its modern methods and ways to prevent it, and emphasized the importance of reporting incidents as soon as they occur.
The speaker discussed several real cases documented in the field, clarifying the reasons that lead some individuals to fall into the trap of online extortion.
He also noted that cyber extortion is not limited to a particular age group, but can target various segments of society.
Awareness videos were shown during the seminar highlighting the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in tracking and arresting extortionists, which enhanced students’ understanding of the seriousness of these crimes.
The seminar saw broad student participation, and the specialized team distributed awareness brochures that included emergency numbers and the unified hotline for reporting cases of extortion.
The Dean’s Office at Al-Kindy College of Medicine affirmed its continued support for digital awareness campaigns, as they contribute to protecting students and society from online risks.
