On World Hypertension Day, the Iraqi Hypertension Society held a ceremony to honor its founding physicians and the members of its first executive board, in recognition of their scientific and clinical contributions to advancing the Society’s mission and strengthening public awareness of hypertension-related diseases.

The Iraqi Hypertension Society was established in 2012 at Al-Kindy College of Medicine – University of Baghdad, as a specialized scientific initiative that has supported academic and medical activities in the field of hypertension.

The ceremony included honoring the late Prof. Zaidan Al-Harkani, the Society’s president; the award was received on his behalf by his daughter, Dr. Rayan Zaidan, from Al-Kindy College of Medicine. Awards were also presented to Prof. Fares Abdul Kareem (former Dean of Al-Kindy College of Medicine) and Prof. Mousa Qasim Hussein, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and a member of the Internal Medicine Scientific Council.

Additional honorees included Prof. Ali Jasim Al-Saadi (Internal Medicine, during the founding period), and Asst. Prof. Ahmed Abd Marzouk (Family and Community Medicine), in appreciation of their foundational roles and ongoing scientific support. The ceremony also honored Prof. Ali Al-Sultani, Consultant Cardiologist at Ibn Al-Nafis Teaching Hospital.

Appreciation shields were presented by Prof. Hilal Al-Saffar and Prof. Ghazi Farhan Al-Hajji.

The ceremony reflects a culture of gratitude for pioneering scientific efforts that helped establish impactful academic and medical institutions with a lasting contribution to healthcare and the community.
