Dr. Asif Mohammed, a lecturer at the Department of Surgery, Al-Kindy College of Medicine – University of Baghdad, and a consultant in general and gastrointestinal surgery, achieved a new medical milestone by leading a specialized team to perform a successful advanced surgical procedure for a 58-year-old patient, including a radical right nephrectomy with additional interventions.
The intervention followed the patient’s consultation at the general surgery clinic, where examinations revealed a malignant tumor in the right kidney, along with chronic cholecystitis and multiple gallstones.
The operation included a radical right nephrectomy, cholecystectomy, and repair of two incisional hernias in the abdominal wall. Tissue samples were sent for histopathological examination to complete the clinical assessment and guide the subsequent management plan.
The surgery lasted approximately four hours under general anesthesia and was successfully completed by the specialized medical team, contributing to the patient’s recovery and improved health status.
This milestone highlights the academic and professional expertise of Al-Kindy College of Medicine faculty in delivering advanced medical services that support the healthcare sector and serve the community.
