The Human Rights Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness activity to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, aiming to promote inclusion and strengthen disability awareness across the College community.
Led by Asst. Instructor Zahraa Alawi, Head of the Unit, and joined by a group of second-year students, the team distributed informational brochures to students on campus. The brochures highlighted practical guidance on respectful and appropriate interaction with persons with disabilities, as well as key preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative/support programs that contribute to empowering this community and enhancing participation in society.
The activity also introduced students to different types of disability-related needs, including:
-
social and behavioral needs,
-
educational and cognitive needs, and
-
physical and sensory needs that may affect daily participation and access.
The event received strong engagement from students, reflecting growing interest in building a university culture that supports inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity.
