Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first institution in Iraq to host the Ophthalmology Foundation (OF) examination since its global launch four years ago.
This landmark event positions the college as Iraq’s official accredited testing center, following rigorous international standards implementation including advanced computer laboratories and specialized software systems ensuring examination precision and integrity.
The examination comprises three electronic stages covering visual sciences, optics and refraction, and clinical assessment. Successful completion awards candidates the Fellowship of the International Ophthalmology Foundation (FIOF), opening pathways to Royal College memberships and fully-funded training opportunities at the Wilmer Eye Institute in the United States.
Dr. Tara Barqi Rashid, examination supervisor and coordinator, emphasized that hosting this assessment represents a transformative advancement in Iraq’s specialized medical education, reflecting Al-Kindy College’s readiness and developmental progress.
The examination proceeded under the direct oversight of College Dean Professor Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Eidani and IT Division Head Noor Fares Abdul-Karim, ensuring highest-tier quality standards and international accreditation compliance.
