The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness-raising symposium on drug risks and their societal impacts, in cooperation with the Iraqi National Security apparatus.
The event was chaired by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Safaa Salman Muzban and attended by College Dean Professor Dr. Mohammed Shihab Al-Eidani, his assistants for scientific and administrative affairs, faculty members, and staff.
Two National Security affiliates delivered the symposium, examining health and legal aspects of drug abuse and their devastating consequences on individuals and society. The presentation covered tactics used to promote narcotics across community segments, warning of the dangers of falling into addiction networks.
The speakers outlined legal mechanisms for dealing with drug traffickers and users under Iraqi law, emphasizing inadvertent legal exposures individuals might face without awareness.
The symposium witnessed significant audience engagement, with interventions and discussions focusing on prevention methods and enhancing community awareness of drug dangers. Key recommendations emerged, notably calling for stricter anti-drug laws and harsher penalties for traffickers.
This event aligns with the college’s efforts to disseminate health and community awareness and strengthen cooperation with security institutions in confronting negative phenomena threatening society.
