The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the University Guidance Unit, held a dialogue seminar addressing mental health challenges among medical students. The seminar was attended by Dean Prof. Mohammed Shihab Al-Aidani, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, faculty members, and students, as part of the College’s efforts to strengthen mental health awareness and support within the academic environment.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Noor Ali Hassan, a specialist in psychiatry, who highlighted key stressors faced by medical students throughout their studies. She explained that intensive academic demands, the nature of clinical training, and continuous academic achievement are major factors that can impact students’ mental well-being.
She noted that these challenges may contribute to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and psychological burnout, emphasizing the importance of early recognition and proactive coping strategies supported by institutional programs.
