The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Common Misconceptions About Autism” to correct widespread misunderstandings and strengthen medical awareness of evidence-based diagnosis and early intervention. The workshop was attended by Dean Prof. Mohammed Shihab Al-Aidani, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Asst. Prof. Muhannad Munther Abdulghani, and a number of faculty members.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ali Saadi Al-Khazaali, who reviewed the latest scientific publications related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and discussed internationally adopted modern treatment protocols. He explained key reasons behind the spread of misconceptions about autism and outlined how to correct them based on robust scientific evidence.
The session also covered early diagnosis pathways and the importance of early therapeutic intervention as a critical factor in improving children’s outcomes. In addition, it highlighted the role of families and educational institutions in supporting children with autism and emphasized community awareness to reduce stigma surrounding the condition.
The session was chaired by Asst. Prof. Hussein Khudair Hussein, who facilitated the scientific discussion among attendees. The workshop featured active engagement and insightful contributions from participants.
The workshop concluded by reaffirming the College’s commitment to scientific activities that promote health awareness and contribute to improving the quality of healthcare service
