The Continuing Education Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, held a scientific workshop addressing the similarities and differences between aneurysmal bone cysts and metastatic malignant tumors, aiming to strengthen clinical diagnostic accuracy and promote expert exchange in line with current medical practice. The workshop was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs Asst. Prof. Muhannad Munther Abdulghani, the Administrative Assistant Dean Asst. Prof. Hijaz Ismail, and faculty members.
The session was delivered by Asst. Prof. Ali Adnan Yousif, a specialist in neurosurgery and spine surgery at the Department of Surgery, who discussed key diagnostic and therapeutic considerations based on updated evidence and best clinical practices. He emphasized the importance of integrating clinical presentation with imaging findings to reach accurate medical decisions.
The workshop reviewed key clinical and radiological differences between aneurysmal bone cysts and metastatic malignancies and discussed differential diagnostic pathways to minimize medical ambiguity—especially in cases where initial indicators may overlap.
A complex case treated three years ago was also presented, demonstrating full recovery. The case was highlighted as rare and involved a prolonged surgical procedure, offering participants valuable insights into decision-making, management planning, and follow-up strategies.
The session was chaired by Dr. Asif Mohammed, who facilitated the scientific discussion. The workshop concluded by reaffirming its goal of enhancing clinical diagnostic skills and improving healthcare quality through professional knowledge exchange.
